Inclusive job description template

A structure that names the work, the must-haves, and the accommodations in the same pass.

This is a template, not legal advice.

1. Title the work, not the person. Prefer “data analyst” over “rockstar ninja.”

2. Lead with what the person will do in the first 6–12 months. Use short sentences.

3. Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves. If a degree is a proxy for skill, say the skill instead.

4. Required section: Accommodations available. List what you already provide (remote work, captions, extra interview time). Do not post the role until this list has at least two items you can honor.

5. Say how to request an accommodation for the hiring process, with a named inbox.

6. Avoid “must be able to lift 25 pounds” unless that is the job. If it is the job, say so plainly.

7. Close with pay range. Hidden pay screens out people who cannot afford another unpaid hoop.
