Accessible onboarding checklist
The first two weeks, written down, so nobody has to guess the unspoken rules.
Day 0 - Equipment and software licenses, including assistive tech, arrive before day one. - A written schedule for week one. Named buddy who is not the manager.
Week 1 - Accessible building tour or remote equivalent. - How to request time off, equipment, and meeting captions. - Glossary of acronyms.
Week 2 - Review of job tasks in writing. - Check-in specifically about access: “Is anything in the way of you doing the work?”
Do not make the new hire educate the team about their disability. The manager owns the access plan.
